Armenian opposition member moved to house arrest

An Armenian court has replaced the pre-trial detention of opposition figure Khachik Galstyan with house arrest, his lawyer said on Thursday.

Galstyan, the secretary general of the opposition Homeland Party, had been held in custody since December 30, 2025. He is accused of distributing bribes to voters during the snap municipal elections held in Vagharshapat last November, rejected by his team as politically motivated.

In a statement, his lawyer, Arsen Babayan, said the court rejected a motion to extend Galstyan’s detention and instead ordered that he be placed under house arrest.

“After reviewing the motion to extend Khachik Galstyan’s detention, the court decided to apply house arrest as a measure of restraint. In two days, Khachik will be home,” Babayan said.
