Armenia has invited a delegation from the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA) to observe the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, according to a statement from the assembly’s press service.

The invitation was sent in a letter from Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan to Valentina Matviyenko, chair of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council and speaker of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly.

According to the CIS IPA press service, the letter formally invites the assembly’s delegation to take part in international monitoring of Armenia’s next parliamentary vote.

In the letter, the Armenian authorities reaffirm their commitment to holding the elections in line with democratic norms and standards.

“The Armenian authorities are committed to conducting the elections in accordance with democratic norms and standards, in the spirit of the principles of freedom, fairness and transparency,” the letter said.
