Poll shows stronger support for Karapetyan than Pashinyan in Yerevan

Armenian businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan would receive roughly twice as much support as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan if elections were held this Sunday, according to a poll cited by an Armenian political figure.

Ashot Markosyan, an economist and member of the Strong Armenia party, said the findings are based on research conducted by the EMPIRICA research and consulting company.

According to the survey, 75% of residents in Yerevan are dissatisfied with the current prime minister’s performance, while nationwide dissatisfaction stands at 61%.

The poll also found that 85% of respondents in Yerevan and the same share across Armenia do not believe that peace in the region is genuinely achievable.

Participants were also asked whom they would choose as prime minister if elections were held this Sunday.

“In Yerevan, Samvel Karapetyan received twice as many votes as Nikol Pashinyan — 49% compared with 24%,” Markosyan said.
