Armenia will have new prime minister in three months, opposition member says

Armenia will have a new prime minister in three months, a member of the opposition Strong Armenia party claims, referring to its leader, businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan.

In a video posted on social media on Saturday, Andranik Gevorgyan said the party would soon announce actions aimed at restoring justice and rebuilding Armenia’s damaged international reputation.

“Armenia will have a new prime minister in three months,” Gevorgyan said.

He argued that Friday's court decision to extend Karapetyan’s house arrest by another month reflected Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s fears.

“The authorities are afraid of Samvel Karapetyan,” Gevorgyan said, adding that his party would not remain passive and would soon outline steps in its political campaign.

“Rest assured that Armenia will have a new, strong prime minister in the person of Samvel Karapetyan,” he said.

Armenia is set to hold parliamentary elections on June 7.
