Armenian minister reports major gains in public safety and migration in 2025

Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan has hailed 2025 as a landmark year, citing improvements in road safety, crime reduction, and migration trends.

Presenting the ministry’s annual performance to the parliament on Friday, Sargsyan said that for the first time since independence, Armenia recorded a positive migration balance. She linked the shift to what she described as the country’s new “peaceful environment”.

The minister highlighted that 95 lives were saved on Armenia’s roads between 2024 and 2025 despite a rise in vehicle numbers. Overall crime fell by 3.2% compared with the previous year, with 1,601 fewer victims and 59 fewer fatalities. Public trust in the police rose to 61%, she added.

Sargsyan also pointed to progress in Armenia’s talks with the European Union on visa liberalisation, noting that the country had received an action plan in record time. She announced the introduction of a biometric system aligned with EU standards and said the ministry had undertaken unprecedented levels of digitalisation.

Armenia was ranked 13th safest country in the world for travel in the 2025 World Travel Index, Sargsyan added.
