Opposition MP Tadevos Avetisyan nominated for Consumer Protection Commission

The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions in the Armenian parliament have jointly nominated economist and legal scholar Tadevos Avetisyan as their candidate for the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, deputy speaker Ruben Rubinyan announced at a parliament session on Wednesday.

Avetisyan, introduced by opposition lawmaker Artsvik Minasyan, holds a PhD in economics, is an associate professor and has legal training alongside extensive experience in the field.

Babken Tunyan, chair of parliament’s economic committee, noted that Avetisyan is currently one of three opposition members on the committee, while the other two have not been attending sessions. He questioned whether Avetisyan’s appointment would leave the committee without opposition participation.

Minasyan replied that only two months remain in the current parliament’s term, after which the ruling Civil Contract party will be responsible for ensuring opposition representation. He added that the opposition bloc would continue to monitor economic issues closely.
