Strong Armenia party announces election alliance with two groups

Armenia’s opposition Strong Armenia party will contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as part of a new political alliance, its board member Narek Karapetyan said on Tuesday.

The alliance, named Strong Armenia with Samvel Karapetyan, was formalized through a memorandum signed by representatives of the New Era and the United Armenians parties.

Under the agreement, the parties will unite around the political agenda and electoral program of Strong Armenia, focusing on strengthening statehood, protecting national and spiritual values, promoting accountable governance, ensuring economic stability, legal fairness and social cohesion.

The signatories said the alliance’s ideological foundation aligns with national and state-centered principles outlined by businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, and expressed readiness to consolidate around those ideas.

Speaking to reporters, Narek Karapetyan said the decision to form the alliance reflects a broader effort to bring new political forces into Armenia’s landscape.

“We have decided to form an alliance with new forces and invite others to join in, as this can create a new political system in Armenia that will change the country’s path toward development,” he said.

Karapetyan added that the current political situation in the country stems from systemic shortcomings and emphasized the need to give younger political forces an opportunity to drive qualitative change.

He also noted that discussions had been held with several extra-parliamentary groups ahead of the announcement.
