Former Armenian captive undergoes surgery, wife calls for support

Lebanese-Armenian Vicken Euljekjian, who returned to Armenia in January after years of captivity in Azerbaijan, is undergoing surgery, his wife has confirmed.

Linda Euljekjian said she remains hopeful the operation will be successful and has urged the public to keep her husband in their prayers. “I truly hope Vicken’s surgery goes well. He deserves our support and prayers,” she said.

Euljekjian was transferred directly to hospital care upon his release earlier this year. He has since faced ongoing health challenges, including hearing loss and severe back pain, which limit his mobility. For a period, he required a neck brace.

“His prison ordeal was long and he needs time to recover. He was freed with hearing problems and back pain; he cannot walk much. But I pray to God that he will be fine. He is now under doctors’ supervision,” Linda told Panorama.am earlier.

She added that her husband has spoken about the hardships he endured while in captivity. “We talked a lot, and it was very difficult to hear. The nightmare is over, but now he needs support to live on and forget what happened. Some things remain in memory and can never be erased,” she said.
