Six Strong Armenia party members placed under house arrest, one released

Six members of the opposition Strong Armenia party’s Artashat branch were placed under house arrest on Friday after being accused of giving or receiving vote bribes, while one was released after a court rejected prosecutors’ request for detention.

The seven activists were detained on Thursday as part of an investigation into alleged electoral bribery. Prosecutors had sought custody for all of them, but the court ruled that six should remain under house arrest and one be freed.

Party member Gohar Meloyan confirmed the rulings, saying the group rejects the charges as politically motivated. The party claimed the arrests are aimed at barring it from running in the June parliamentary elections.
