Intoxicated passenger stabs bus driver in Yerevan

A bus driver was stabbed in Yerevan on Monday following an altercation with a passenger who was reportedly intoxicated, officials said.

The attack took place on Halabyan Street aboard a Route 8 bus operated under the Yerevan Municipality. The Armenian Interior Ministry said a dispute escalated when the passenger struck the driver with a knife.

The victim, identified as 44-year-old Arsen D. from Kotayk Province, was rushed to Armenia Medical Center by ambulance and underwent surgery. Authorities said he was unable to provide a statement due to his condition.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on charges of hooliganism and infliction of medium-gravity bodily harm. Police from the Mashtots division are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The driver is employed by Yerevan Bus CJSC, which operates the city’s public transport fleet.
