Armenian students win gold, silver and bronze at 17th IATI Informatics Olympiad

Armenian school students secured a full set of medals at the 17th International Informatics Olympiad (IATI), held online this academic year with the support of Bulgaria’s Ministry of Education and Science.

The competition featured two divisions: senior (grades 10-12) and junior (grades 7-9). Armenia was represented by 20 students from six educational institutions, including the Physics and Mathematics Specialized School named after Artashes Shahinyan, Quantum College, Ayb School, Photon College in Gyumri and Gyumri Basic Schools No. 7 and No. 41.

In the senior division, the Armenian team earned one silver medal and five bronze medals. Alex Grigoryan, a 12th-grade student from Quantum College, claimed silver, while bronze medals were awarded to Tigran Matsakyan and Vahagn Gyozalyan (Shahinyan School, 11th grade), Aren Grigoryan and Hayk Manukyan (Quantum College, 10th grade), and Mamikon Hambaryan (Gyumri School No. 41, 9th grade), who competed in the senior category by choice.

In the junior division, Armenia captured one gold and two bronze medals. Vache Kocharyan, an 8th-grade student from Quantum College, won gold, while Herbert Khondkaryan (Shahinyan School, 9th grade) and Hayk Adamyan (Quantum College, 7th grade) secured bronze.

The Armenian teams were coached by Yerevan State University lecturer Armen Andreasyan, along with graduate students Samvel Andreasyan and Robert Kocharyan. Participation was facilitated with support from the university’s Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics.

The Olympiad brought together 440 students from 16 countries, including 285 participants in the senior division and 155 in the junior division.
