Armenian MP accuses government of greenlighting cultural erasure in Artsakh

Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan on Monday accused the country’s leadership of tacitly enabling the destruction of Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh, warning that official rhetoric risks emboldening further abuses and signaling indifference to the international community.

Writing on social media, Abrahamyan, a member of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, said statements by senior officials regarding the fate of religious and cultural sites in Artsakh have been “passive in nature” and convey two “dangerous messages”.

“First, they effectively grant Azerbaijan license to continue a genocidal policy,” he said. “Second, they signal to the international community that Armenia does not perceive Azerbaijani vandalism as a serious concern and therefore no substantial intervention is required.”

He further alleged that “Armenian identity in Artsakh—our millennia-old footprint in the region—is being systematically erased,” adding that this process is unfolding “under the constant flicker of a ‘green light’ emanating from the government building”.
