French opposition slams Macron over singing in Yerevan

French President Emmanuel Macron has come under fire after being filmed singing at a dinner in Yerevan alongside Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and jazz musician Vahagn Hayrapetyan.

Footage from the event shows Macron joining Hayrapetyan in a rendition of La Bohème, the celebrated song by legendary French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour. Pashinyan accompanied them on percussion, creating what appeared to be an impromptu musical performance.

But the moment quickly sparked political backlash at home. Florian Philippot, the leader of the nationalist party Les Patriotes, accused the president of indulging in theatrics while ignoring pressing domestic concerns. 

“After Macron jogger and dog-carer yesterday, today Macron is an inspired singer. Meanwhile, tens of millions of French people would welcome action on fuel prices, for example," he wrote on X on Tuesday.

The MP also criticized the government’s handling of agricultural imports, warning that French farmers face growing competition from Mercosur trade deals.
