Armenian opposition candidate pledges tax cuts for large families

Armenian opposition leader Arman Tatoyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the Wings of Unity party, has vowed to reduce the tax burden on large families if he wins the June 7 parliamentary elections.

Tatoyan said the plan would overhaul the current system, which treats each individual as a separate taxpayer, by recognizing the family as a single tax entity. “When a family becomes large, the taxpayer is no longer the spouses or members individually, but the family as one subject,” he told supporters on Tuesday.

He argued the measure is designed to encourage higher birth rates, support young households and strengthen Armenia’s demographic outlook. “We must implement this without hesitation, because we need to stimulate births in the country, so that many young families are formed, many children are born and our population grows for the sake of our country’s future. This is a very fair approach,” Tatoyan said.
