Hayastan alliance condemns searches at Spitak office, accuses government of authoritarian tactics

The opposition Hayastan alliance on Thursday denounced law enforcement searches conducted at its office in the town of Spitak, describing the operation as politically motivated intimidation orchestrated by the Armenian government.

In a statement, the alliance said the searches and the targeting of its associates were not unexpected, arguing that such conduct has become emblematic of the current administration’s approach to dissent.

“The current leadership lacks public support and confidence in its own political standing and is therefore resorting to such measures to maintain its grip on power,” the statement said.

The alliance further asserted that the operation was “not a legal process, but another crude attempt to obstruct the normal functioning of our structures.”

According to the statement, the government is attempting to cultivate a climate of fear through searches and arrests, though the alliance maintained that such actions would only reinforce its political resolve.

“No search or arrest can alter our political agenda. Our team knows what it is fighting for,” the statement read.

The alliance called on Armenians to reject the “authoritarian regime” established in Armenia during the June 7 parliamentary elections.
