Armenian parliament fails to reach quorum as only five MPs register for session

The Armenian National Assembly was unable to open its plenary session on Tuesday after only five lawmakers registered for attendance, leaving the parliament short of the quorum required to begin proceedings.

Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan announced the lack of quorum at the start of the session, referring to parliamentary rules that allow registration to remain open for up to four hours in an effort to secure sufficient attendance.

Only five MPs registered for the session, including Arshakyan himself.

Those present in the chamber included three members of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, independent MP Hakob Aslanyan and Arshakyan.

A recess was subsequently declared in the parliament.

The agenda included 35 bills, including amendments to the domestic violence law.
