Lavrov responds to Pashinyan’s wealth remarks

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan should deliver on his promise if he believes the country will become wealthy.

Speaking in an interview with state broadcaster Vesti on Thursday, Lavrov addressed remarks Pashinyan made during a campaign rally in the town of Garni. Pashinyan had told supporters that Armenia was not concerned about rising commodity prices if relations with Russia deteriorated, because the nation planned to “get rich.”

“I cannot comment on the statements of Armenia’s leader. If he believes the country will become wealthy, let him ensure that,” Lavrov said.
