Marukyan urges Armenians to elect parliament serving public interests

Edmon Marukyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition Bright Armenia Party, on Friday called on voters to use the June 7 parliamentary elections to form a legislature that represents the people rather than corporate or personal interests.

Speaking outside the National Assembly during a symbolic campaign event, Marukyan said Thursday’s televised debate showed citizens “have a chance to avoid a political desert.” He contrasted candidates who make statements without political thought with those offering concrete programs and ideas.

“The people must choose who will represent them in the legislature,” Marukyan said. “The elections give us the opportunity to form a parliament that serves the national interests, not to protect stolen wealth or act as government instruments.”
