Armenia records 58.97% turnout in parliamentary elections

Voter turnout in Armenia’s parliamentary elections reached 58.97% on Sunday, according to preliminary data released by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), marking a notable increase from the country’s last parliamentary vote in 2021.

CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said that 1,476,597 citizens cast ballots from a total electorate of 2,503,976 eligible voters. Polling stations closed nationwide at 8 p.m. local time.

Turnout climbed steadily throughout election day. By 11 a.m., 362,657 voters had cast ballots, representing 14.48% of the electorate. Participation rose to 847,226 voters, or 33.84%, by 2 p.m., and reached 1,224,957 voters, or 48.92%, by 5 p.m.

The preliminary turnout figure surpasses that of Armenia’s June 2021 snap parliamentary elections, when 1,281,174 voters participated from an electorate of 2,593,572, for a turnout rate of 49.4%.
