Armenian opposition alliance to challenge election results in top court

The opposition Hayastan alliance plans to challenge the outcome of Sunday’s parliamentary elections in the Constitutional Court, alleging systemic irregularities and discrepancies in official vote counts.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, its member and ARF Armenia leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan said that recounts were already underway at several precincts and would continue throughout the week. He cited instances where signed protocols at polling stations diverged sharply from figures published on the Central Electoral Commission’s website, including cases where dozens of votes appeared to be missing.

“The elections were conducted under pressure. They were not free and fair,” Saghatelyan said, adding that the alliance had documented around 20 violations, while other opposition groups had also reported irregularities. He noted that the bloc was preparing a comprehensive evidence package for submission to the court.

The Central Election Commission has attributed the discrepancies to technical errors, while its website has faced repeated outages.

Opposition groups will decide whether to take up parliament seats only after consultations and further review of recount results, he added.
