Armenian analyst calls for opposition unity after parliamentary vote

Armenian political analyst Stepan Danielyan called on opposition forces to prioritize unity, transparency and collective decision-making following Sunday's parliamentary elections, arguing that debates over parliamentary mandates are secondary to a broader political strategy.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Danielyan said the decision by opposition groups to accept or reject parliamentary seats cannot be judged in isolation.

"Whether taking or not taking parliament seats is right or wrong depends on the next steps taken under either scenario," he wrote.

Danielyan said either option could be justified if political actors understand the consequences of their decisions and are prepared to follow through with a clear plan.

He outlined three factors he believes are essential for the opposition moving forward.

First, he said opposition parties should establish a unified headquarters and a central decision-making body. Second, he argued that the public must be informed about decision-making procedures and outcomes, warning that without public trust and support, the opposition would have little political value.

Third, Danielyan urged political leaders to set aside personal ambitions.

"The egoism of 'leaders' and empty, unfounded arrogance must be put aside," he said, adding that recent developments have shown such attitudes to be futile.
