Armenian opposition party challenges invalidated ballots in parliamentary elections

The Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) has filed objections with Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) over the invalidation of four ballots cast in its favor during Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

According to party spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan, four ballots from polling stations 21/04, 21/05 and 21/34 in the Martuni region were declared invalid because holographic security stickers had not been properly affixed.

Tonoyan argued that voters should not be penalized for an administrative error.

“The improper placement of a holographic sticker cannot in any way be considered the voter’s fault,” she said in a statement on Thursday. “Responsibility lies with the relevant commission member or the individual conducting the ballot count.”

The party has submitted formal reservations to the CEC, contending that it is unacceptable for citizens to lose the value of their vote because of circumstances beyond their control.
