The opposition Strong Armenia alliance on Friday formally petitioned the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to invalidate the results of Sunday’s parliamentary elections, citing widespread irregularities.
In a social media post earlier, Narek Karapetyan, a senior member of the bloc, accused the ruling Civil Contract party of benefiting from directed voting by soldiers and pressure on public sector employees. He also claimed that recounts at numerous polling stations revealed a significant drop in Civil Contract’s vote totals compared with initial counts.
The bloc will appeal to the Constitutional Court if the CEC does not respond promptly. “We must clip Civil Contract’s wings in Armenia,” Karapetyan said.
