Armenian opposition alliance challenges parliamentary election results in top court

The opposition Strong Armenia alliance has petitioned the Constitutional Court to invalidate the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections, alleging widespread and coordinated electoral irregularities.

Its member Aram Vardevanyan filed the appeal with the Constitutional Court on June 19, challenging the legitimacy of the vote and the official results certified by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

In a statement, alliance spokesperson Marianna Ghahramanyan said the group is seeking to overturn CEC Resolution No. 258-A, adopted on June 14, which formally approved the results of the parliamentary elections.

The alliance argues that the election was marred by “massive and organized electoral violations” carried out with the involvement of authorities. On that basis, it has asked the Constitutional Court either to invalidate the election results entirely or to order a second round of voting.
