More opposition parties challenge Armenian election results in top court

Three opposition forces in Armenia on Friday filed petitions with the Constitutional Court seeking to annul the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections.

The Wings of Unity party, led by former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, submitted its appeal demanding the election results be invalidated and a re‑vote scheduled. Shortly afterward, representatives of the Prosperous Armenia Party lodged their own petition, formally contesting the outcome at 4:30 p.m. The Hayastan alliance followed suit, presenting its challenge at 5:00 p.m.

Earlier in the day, the Strong Armenia alliance, represented by lawyer Aram Vardevanyan, had already filed a motion to nullify the Central Electoral Commission’s June 14 decision certifying the results. The bloc alleged “massive and organized violations” orchestrated by the authorities and called for either annulment of the vote or a second round.

Six opposition parties previously issued a joint statement condemning the election process, asserting that official tallies “do not reflect the true will of the people” and warning that the results cannot serve as the foundation for a legitimate government. They placed responsibility for any further escalation squarely on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his administration.

The parties pledged to continue their struggle “exclusively within the framework of the Constitution, laws, and democratic principles,” vowing to defend citizens’ right to free expression and safeguard Armenia’s statehood and democratic values.
