Armenian analyst says court review may shape politics beyond election results

As Armenia’s Constitutional Court prepares to review challenges to the June 7 parliamentary election results, political analyst Hakob Badalyan urged the public not to expect sweeping reversals but to recognize the broader political significance of the process.

The court will hear all complaints in a single session on June 26. Many experts argue the tribunal is unlikely to alter the outcome, but Badalyan pointed to a 2003 precedent.

“In 2003, no one expected the Constitutional Court to suggest a ‘confidence referendum’ one year after the presidential elections,” he said in a social media post on Monday. “It did not change the outcome, but it became a crucial detail in shaping subsequent political realities and intra-governmental relations.”

Badalyan stressed that outcomes should be measured through the prism of political complexity rather than rigid expectations. “When we interpret events through the multilayered nature of political processes, the outcome itself must be evaluated within that framework – free from stereotypes or emotions,” he explained.

The analyst added that Armenia’s political trajectory depends less on sudden upheavals than on steady, deliberate work. “There is no other path that offers a more reliable prospect for change,” Badalyan said. “We must proceed calmly, with broad, patient work and meticulous calculation.”
