Opposition MP: Years of probes into Serzh Sargsyan have failed

Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has denounced years of investigations into former President Serzh Sargsyan, saying they have produced no results despite extensive scrutiny.

“For eight years, the entire law enforcement system has been digging into Serzh Sargsyan’s life and decades of political activity,” Abrahamyan, a member of the Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

“There have been waves of criminal cases, but in the end we see acquittals, dismissals, fabricated charges, slander — and nothing to show for it.”

Abrahamyan accused the judiciary of acting under the influence of the ruling Civil Contract party. “The judicial system is making desperate attempts to prove the unprovable,” he said.

The MP added that the government’s objectives are clear: “From waging war against Sargsyan’s shadow to making public promises that have long been exposed as empty.”
