Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has denounced the ongoing detention of Gyumri-based human rights activist Karapet Poghosyan, stressing that authorities have provided no explanation for the move.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Abrahamyan, a member of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, said the number of people detained before and after recent elections has become so large that "it is difficult to keep track of who has been detained and when."
"Nobody knows why he has been detained," he wrote, referring to Poghosyan. The MP stated that the detention was politically motivated, claiming the authorities had acted because "the regime needed to."
Abrahamyan accused the government of continuing with unlawful detentions, adding that the authorities themselves may have "lost count" of those taken into custody.
