9,620 students admitted to universities in Armenia

Armenia has admitted 9,620 applicants to higher education institutions for the 2026-27 academic year, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported.

The government allocated 12,720 university places for this year's admissions cycle, including 2,133 state-funded seats and 10,587 tuition-paying places, according to figures unveiled by Assessment and Testing Center Director Armen Pashayan at a meeting of the Republican Admissions Committee on Friday.

A total of 1,875 students were admitted to state-funded places, including reserve and targeted admissions, while 7,799 secured tuition-paying places.

For a second consecutive year, authorities also organized supplementary entrance examinations in Tavush Province for applicants whose secondary education from grades 10 through 12 was completed entirely under Armenia's revised national curriculum.

Those applicants were eligible to take an additional examination designed to reflect the new educational standards alongside the nationwide unified entrance exams. According to the Assessment and Testing Center, participants improved their performance compared with earlier examination results.

The Republican Admissions Committee approved the results of the main admissions round for bachelor's degree programs across Armenia's universities, as well as the outcome of the competition for preferential places reserved for members of the country's national minorities. The ministry said the final admissions results would be published later.

Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Zhanna Andreasyan also reviewed the administration of this year's unified entrance examinations and the timetable for processing and releasing results.

Andreasyan said the government should also explore introducing electronic entrance examinations, noting that universities are expected to assume a greater role in the admissions process in the future and that many institutions have already established effective digital platforms.

The committee also discussed the redistribution of vacant places and other issues related to this year's admissions process.
