Snap elections in Gyumri 'inevitable', councilor says after resigning
Sarik Minasyan, who led the ruling Civil Contract party's ticket in the Gyumri City Council elections, has resigned from the municipal council and will instead continue serving as a lawmaker.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Minasyan said he would continue to support Gyumri and its residents through his parliamentary role.
"I will continue my political activity as a member of the National Assembly, serving Gyumri and its residents with broader authority and even greater dedication," he wrote.
Minasyan said Gyumri "needs responsible and professional leadership", claiming that its absence makes snap elections to the Gyumri City Council "inevitable".
