Ruben Mkhitaryan: No one in Gyumri should live in temporary shelters by 40th quake anniversary

Gyumri (formerly known as Leninakan), once had immense industrial potential, but its progress was derailed by two major disasters – the devastating earthquake and the subsequent "plundering" of the city, its mayoral candidate Ruben Mkhitaryan, representing the My Strong Community party, said at a meeting with local residents.

He pledged to make Gyumri a symbol of social justice: "No child should miss school due to poverty – whether for lack of money or even a pair of shoes. No elderly person should be unable to reach a clinic because they cannot afford it."

Mkhitaryan emphasized his key mission: "By the 40th anniversary of the earthquake, no one in Gyumri should be living in temporary shelters (domiks)."
