MP claims arrests of Gyumri opposition activists ordered by Pashinyan

Independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan claims that law enforcement officials raided the Gyumri offices of the opposition blocs and arrested their activists at Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's behest on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters outside the Anti-Corruption Court, where she joined other supporters of opposition candidate Martun Grigoryan, Tovmasyan stated that the arrests were ordered by Pashinyan following his speech in the parliament on March 26.

"What is happening to Martun Grigoryan clearly shows that the authorities are worried about the outcome of the Gyumri elections. This campaign against Martun Grigoryan and his family is nothing but a politically motivated move aimed at weakening him and preventing his victory," the MP asserted.

Meanwhile, judges are currently hearing motions to impose administrative supervision on Grigoryan’s father and son who were arrested after searches at his campaign offices and house on Thursday.

Homeland Party leader Artur Vanetsyan, MPs, lawyers, activists and Gyumri residents have gathered outside the court in support of the opposition candidate.
