CPFE head condemns vulgar language used by Pashinyan and his wife

Ashot Melikyan, Chairman of the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression (CPFE), has strongly condemned the vulgar language used by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his wife to respond to their critics.

"I consider the remarks made by the prime minister and his wife in response to the insults against them to be absolutely unacceptable and condemnable," Melikyan told a press conference on Tuesday.

He stressed that public officials, especially those holding high posts, should demonstrate greater restraint and self-control, serving as role models for civil discourse.

"When I read their comments, I feel embarrassed for them," Melikyan remarked.

He also expressed concern over Pashinyan’s recent statements indicating a continued use of such language. "This is deeply troubling. I firmly believe that society often mirrors the behavior of its political leaders. Such rhetoric directly contributes to the degradation of public discourse," he said.

According to Melikyan, the political leadership appears largely indifferent to the broader implications of its actions, focusing instead on short-term concerns. He warned that such an approach would lead to negative consequences for the country.
