Rescued bear cub in poor health condition, FPWC says

A 7-8 month old bear cub in an emaciated, stunted and poor health condition has been transferred to the Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC) of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC).

According to initial estimates, the cub weighs just 3-4 kg, which does not correspond to the norms for its age. As a result of malnutrition, a decline in immunity and a purulent discharge from both eyes were observed, the FPWC reported on Friday.

"The animal was transferred to us by the Environmental and Subsoil Inspection Body. According to the Inspection Body, the cub had been in another location for a month before being transferred to us. The cub is currently at the Center's clinic and is undergoing a quarantine phase. Our specialists are providing the animal with comprehensive care, including a rabies vaccination, deworming, and a special diet," it said.

"The cub is responding to treatment and is eating sufficiently. After recovery, the animal will join our rehabilitation program with the goal of returning to the wild, if possible," the FPWC added.
