Expert urges international action after Armenian opposition mayor's murder

Constitutional law expert Gohar Meloyan, co-founder of the International Center on Development of Parliamentarism NGO, has issued an urgent call to the international community regarding the murder of Armenian opposition mayor Volodya Grigoryan.

"Last night, the opposition mayor of Parakar, Volodya Grigoryan, who won a crushing victory over the current government, was brutally murdered in front of his house. Why wasn't this figure's security ensured?" she said in a social media post.

"The unprecedented number of political prisoners in the Republic of Armenia, and the most expensive environment for political murders, is also the result of a retreat from your values and your permissive assessments of the situation.

"Your structures have been established as a result of diligently bringing the values ​​given on paper to life. I expect your consistency in revealing this crime and preventing the upcomings," Meloyan added.
