Major wildfire in Armenia partly contained

Two of the wildfire hotspots that broke out in Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province have been extinguished, while the remaining fires have been contained, the Interior Ministry Rescue Service reports.

The blaze began in grassland between the villages of Chambarak and Ttujur on 21 November. A firefighting headquarters was set up on site to coordinate the response.

According to officials, the operation has involved 1,194 rescue personnel, 16 primary and 88 auxiliary firefighting units, along with staff from the police, the Eco Patrol Service and residents of nearby villages. The Defense Ministry has also deployed a helicopter for reconnaissance and water-dropping missions, completing 23 flights.

Firefighting efforts continue in the remaining affected areas.
