Armenian church leader visits archbishop after surgery

The head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos Karekin II, on Monday visited Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan, Primate of the Shirak Diocese, who is receiving treatment at Yerevan's Izmirlian Medical Center after surgery.

Hospital officials confirmed the visit to local media, saying Ajapahyan’s condition was assessed as satisfactory and that he is continuing post-operative care.

Last week, Ajapahyan was transferred to the Izmirlian Medical Center from the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary, where he had been held, and subsequently underwent surgery.
