Armenia will not act 'behind Russia’s back' on transport initiatives, Pashinyan says

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said his government will not pursue transport or infrastructure projects “behind Russia’s back,” underlining that engagement with Russia remains open and ongoing.

Speaking at a briefing on Thursday, Pashinyan said Armenia would continue working transparently with international partners and would not take steps that run counter to Moscow while dialogue remains “broad and open.”

His remarks followed questions about recent discussions with visiting officials from Kazakhstan, including whether potential changes to Armenia’s railway management were being considered without Russian involvement. Pashinyan dismissed the claims, saying no such talks were taking place outside established channels.

He noted that Kazakhstan has expressed interest since August in the TRIPP initiative, which is linked to the development of new international transport routes. Pashinyan described the process as fully public, adding that a number of countries are exploring potential participation.

He said Armenia plans to encourage partners, including Kazakhstan, to make use of transit routes through its territory for exports, imports and logistics services, stressing that effective transport networks depend on sustained international cooperation.

Responding to the Azerbaijani president's remarks, Pashinyan said the TRIPP project could open up investment opportunities for both Armenia and Azerbaijan, particularly within the framework of the “Middle Corridor”.
