Armenia opens 59 criminal cases over election violations

Armenian investigators say they have launched 59 criminal cases over suspected election-related offenses, ranging from multiple voting to breaches of ballot secrecy.

The Investigative Committee announced that as of 8 p.m. on June 7, 43 cases were initiated in regional divisions and 16 in Yerevan.

Authorities said nine cases involve obstruction of voting rights or election commission work under Article 210 of the Criminal Code. Thirty cases were opened under Article 214 for voting more than once or on behalf of another person. Seventeen cases were tied to violations of ballot secrecy under Article 215, while three cases were filed under Article 314 for spreading false news about terrorism.

Nine individuals have been detained as part of the investigations.
