Body of missing 13-year-old girl recovered from river in northern Armenia

Rescue divers and emergency personnel on Monday recovered the body of a 13-year-old girl from the Pambak River in northern Armenia, more than a week after she was reported missing along with her younger sister.

The body of Marine Martirosyan, born in 2013, was found at about 2:25 p.m. local time, approximately 550 meters downstream from the location where she was believed to have entered the river, Armenia's Interior Ministry reported.

Marine had been missing since June 15, when authorities received a report that she and her 7-year-old sister had left an address on Narekatsi Street in the city of Vanadzor and failed to reach their intended destination.

The body of her younger sister, Nare Martirosyan, born in 2018, was recovered from the Pambak River on June 17.

The search operation involved rescue workers, police officers, volunteer teams, divers and drones. Boats and other technical equipment were also used in the effort to locate the two children.
