Armenian opposition MP accuses Pashinyan's government of pressuring Constitutional Court

Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government of attempting to influence the Constitutional Court amid hearings on challenges to the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections.

Writing on social media on Tuesday, Abrahamyan, a member of the Pativ Unem faction, said the ruling Civil Contract party has already begun nominating candidates for parliament speaker and deputy speakers even though the Constitutional Court has yet to rule on the election challenges.

"Obviously, the Constitutional Court has been instructed from above to act in line with the political decisions of the current leader and to issue rulings accordingly," Abrahamyan said.

He also stated that the government "has usurped the entire system, dismantling the rule of law."
