Karen Grigoryan, the son of Gyumri mayoral candidate Martun Grigoryan from the opposition Our City bloc, was released from custody on Friday. He was welcomed by his friends, family and political and public figures outside Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court.
Law enforcement officers raided Grigoryan’s campaign offices and house before arresting his father and son on Thursday. The Anti-Corruption Committee said the crackdown was part of a criminal investigation into allegations that some election contenders were trying to buy votes. Grigoryan denied the accusations as politically motivated.
Today, the Anti-Corruption Court was reviewing the investigator's motions to impose administrative supervision on them.
Arsen Babayan, the lawyer representing Martun Grigoryan’s father, Kamo Grigoryan, stated that the investigator refused to answer any questions during the court hearing.
"It further confirms that the prosecution is politically motivated, as I asserted in court," Babayan said.
