Yerevan district head apologizes following assault on activist

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan condemned a violent altercation involving Tigran Ter-Margaryan, head of the Nor Nork administrative district, and several of his staff members, who assaulted civic activist Artur Chakhoyan last week.

"Any form of violence, whether it's physical, verbal or through provocation, is absolutely unacceptable," he told a City Hall meeting on Monday.

"Every employee of the Yerevan City Hall, especially the heads of administrative districts who represent the mayor, must exercise restraint in all situations,” the mayor said.

Highlighting that provocations are common in public life, Avinyan emphasized that violence is never justified. He called on the district head to publicly address the incident under criminal investigation.

Addressing his colleagues, Ter-Margaryan expressed regret, stating that as a district leader, he should have maintained greater composure.

"I deeply regret what happened. Once again, I’d like to offer my apologies to you and the public. This incident has given me much to reflect on," he said.
