Samvel Karapetyan moved to Yerevan prison under stricter detention conditions

Businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan has been transferred from the Armavir Penitentiary to the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary, where detention conditions are significantly more stringent.

Nona Navikyan, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Armenian Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service, confirmed the transfer to Pastinfo on Tuesday. While the official reason for the move has not been disclosed, law-enforcement authorities cite "operational necessity" as the basis for the decision.

Karapetyan's visitation rights remain restricted, limited to his family members and legal team. However, given the stricter conditions at the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary, the transfer may be part of efforts to further isolate him.
